Joseph is loved by Christians because he relates to the daily journey and struggles of ordinary people, sinners who try their best to respond to what God asks of them and remain faithful one day at a time. Joseph is the protector and guardian of the Church, but he also watches over and guards each and every Christian who is on the journey of faith. But first and foremost the identity of Joseph is that he was chosen to be the foster father of Jesus Christ.
Essentially linked to that identity is his other role, which is to be husband of Mary. Father delves into that role in the chapter "Joseph, Husband."
