Friars Day of Healing Newburgh, NY
Remote teaching by Fr Richard McAlear, OMI August 21, 2021
In the first chapter of Colossians, St. Paul says, “…we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have…”
Father’s time as director of the Oblate’s Our Lady of Hope Center in Newburgh, New York in the early 1970’s is a highlight of his Priesthood.
Father’s healing prayer and charismatic work at Our Lady Hope were combined with a strong outreach to the poor and needy of the area. Father’s “Ministry of Hope & Healing” then and now, is rooted in the community of faith and love in Jesus that was celebrated at Our Lady of Hope. The Center has since been closed but in God’s continued providence and blessing, the community of faith and love in Jesus remains.
A few years ago, the CFRs– Franciscan Friars of the Renewal arrived in Newburgh and reside at what is now St Mary of the Assumption Friary on South Street. On August 21st, 2021 the Friars had a “Day of Healing” and Father gave a teaching, an opening talk, remotely. In a portion of his talk, Father shares the story of how he and Fr Benedict Groeschel, founder of the CFRs– Franciscan Friars of the Renewal came to know each other through the ministry at Our Lady of Hope and impresses upon us the special significance and blessing the “Day of Healing” holds for the Friars.
The day was not live-streamed and wishing to share his talk with those of you who were not able to attend, Father is making his recording available.
This is the recording of Father’s talk for the “Day of Healing” with the CFR– Franciscan Friars of the Renewal at St Mary of the Assumption in Newburgh, NY on August 21, 2021...
Father is pleased to release this video on January 17th the Feast of Our Lady of Hope and sends his blessing to one and all and in a special way to all who were and always will be part of the Oblate's Our Lady of Hope Center in Newburgh, NY and to those who now continue in this community of faith and love in Jesus.
